In 2010, Gainesville will promote itself.
Until now the city has relied on the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors Bureau but Gainesville plans to hire its own tourism staff. The Lake Lanier CVB is partly funded from Gainesville’s hotel/motel tax and in future that money will go directly to Gainesville.
City officials didn't explain the reasons behind the change, but emphasised that they will continue to work with the CVB. Stacey Dickson, CVB president said:
“The City of Gainesville has been a great partner in our progress as an organization. With the construction of our new state-of-the-art regional visitor information center in Oakwood, the Lake Lanier CVB will continue to serve visitors for the entire region.”
Planning for that new visitor center, funded by SPLOST collections in Hall County, is underway. It will be constructed at Exit 16 on Highway 985 in Oakwood. The fast-growing location has been chosen to be very visible from highway for people travelling north from Atlanta. It is scheduled to open within the next two years.
The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce has announced that Mike Garrett, Georgia Power CEO and
Governor Perdue's "water czar," will speak at the Chamber's Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast September 22 at the Alpharetta Marriott.
The breakfast begins at 7:30am. Perdue has selected Garrett to handle the negotiations involving the water disputes between Georgia, Alabama and Florida. Garrett will lead a group of 130 Georgia businesses and government and political officials in the state's efforts to resolve the disputes and reach an agreement between all parties. The group will focus its work on the issues surrounding the waters of Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier.

Blackshear Place Baptist Church held it's forth annual Family Fun Day at Lake Lanier Sunday, enjoying fellowship with members and also baptizing over 50 people in the natural outdoor setting of the lake.
This is one of highlights on the church's calendar and they do a great job of preparing for the event, renting out the entire Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Water Park.
The baptisms were presided over by senior pastor Jeff Crook and included a mix of new believers and church members re-affirming their beliefs.
In addition to the baptisms, the festivities also included tables loaded with good food and the opportunity to enjoy the beach and water park with a large gathering of other members.
If you are ticket-less and the idea of hanging around hot parking lots, large crowds and traffic, hoping to score seats at a
good price is not your idea of how to spend game-day, Lake Lanier Islands Resort is offering an interesting alternative.
With Harbor Landing's Houseboat Tailgate Package, starting September 8th, you and 9 other friends can enjoy the game aboard a houseboat equipped with satellite TV, full kitchen, and of course a gas grill. The houseboats feature one and a half baths, four bedrooms, a common area and an upper deck with, yes, a heated spa.
Whether you're a Falcon fan, a Bulldog fan or a Yellow Jacket fan, the price tag is $599 for a two day rental and gas is not included.

The annual Dragon Boat Festival is back again at the Lake Lanier Olympic Center for its 14th time! On Saturday the 12th Clarks Bridge Park will be closed for the launch and thousands of participants and spectators are expected to experience this colorful event.
There will be plenty of schmoozing as corporate Atlanta has embraced this event as have two handfuls of area colleges and universities.
Go. Get Cultured. Get wet. Get involved. Get going!
