The striper fishing has been very good this week on Lake Lanier and today was no exception. All of our boats did well this morning on downlined bluebacks fished 70 to 80 feet deep over a 90 to 110 foot bottom.

Leadcore has also worked well this past week. Fish in the mouths of creeks and out on the main lake for best results. The fish are showing up well in all the prime summer locations and are easy to find on your graph. The biggest thing is to fish deep enough and carry a lot of bait. Run your graph on the 100 foot depth scale as you will miss many deeper fish if you keep your graph on the 60 foot scale.

Overall, the numbers have been great most mornings and afternoons on our boats.

1309453704_rptJust a quick report before I head back out on the lake. The striper fishing has been very good on downlined bluebacks fished 30 to 40 feet deep over a 40 to 80 foot bottom, on and just off the main lake. Mid-lake and south are both producing well most days. Leadcore and u-rigs are also working.

We are catching bigger fish further south and school size stripers mid-lake and just a little further north. We are in that great summertime pattern of downlining and trolling on Lake Lanier and it will last thru the end of Sept. We are running morning and afternoon trips 7 days a week on our boats. It's a great time of the year to take kids or family fishing.

1307724951_rptSince my last report our boats have enjoyed great striper fishing on downlined bluebacks fished 25 to 35 feet deep over a 35 to 60 foot bottom. We are still seeing a good mix of stripers and spots on Spro Dawgs, Sammies, and Spooks early each morning. These fish have been up busting, on and around points and humps. U-rigs are also working well.

boats are catching stripers in the mouths to the middle of creeks and on the main lake. The stripers are really bunching up well and will black out your screen. Most of the time they will bend all four rods at the same time when they are thick under your boat. If you are getting window shopped while downlining and the fish are on the screen, change your bait frequently, and start letting your bait all the way to the bottom and slowly wind it up to the surface. Keep doing this while they are on the screen.

Some days they really like the bait moving up and down. Overall, the striper fishing has been great over the last two weeks. We are moving into the heart of the summer and can expect great fishing most days from now thru Oct.

1301329669_rptHope everyone is enjoying spring break. We are open daily for 4 thru 6 hour morning & afternoon trips. Trophy Stripers, Big Spots, & Crappie. We have a few slots open this week as we run 7 boats daily. Give Pam a call and she can get you on the schedule.

It's a great time of the year to take your kids and family fishing on Lake Lanier. Freelined Bluebacks, Scroungers, and Mc Sticks, are working on the stripers and spots. Main lake points, secondary points, and humps have been best. Chartreuse jigs and minnows are working on the crappie back in stained water.

Looks like we've got great weather the rest of the week. The lake is full and weather is warm. This report is brought to you by Shane Watson Guide Service www.lakelanierstripers.com 770-889-5549, Hammond's Fishing Center, and Carolina Skiff Boats. Good Fishing.

Since my last report, we've been catching quality stripers on Lake Lanier. Freelined and planerboard bluebacks, gizzard shad, bucktails, and McSticks continue to produce. Our boats are catching a few fish in the backs of creeks, but most of our fish have been on points and humps. The night time bomber bite continues to be good. Long A's and McSticks fished on points and sandy pockets after dark are working.

My crappie guide has been doing well on chartreuse and pink jigs around docks and brush in stained water. Overall, the fishing has been great. Everything seems to be on track for a great spring and summer on Lake Lanier.

Shane Watson Guide Service Report (03-18-11).

The bigger stripers are up shallow on Lake Lanier and freelined bluebacks, white bucktails, and Spro Mc Sticks are all working. There are a few stripers in the backs of all the stained creeks and we are seeing surfacing fish out over deep water most mornings. These surfacing stripers have been in the middle to the mouths of creeks.

North and south have been about the same on the stripers. We are starting to catch and release some really big spots up shallow while striper fishing. The crappie fishing is really good right now back in stained creeks.

Shane Watson Guide Service Quick Report (03-06-11).

Just a quick report on the fishing. The bigger stripers are up shallow on Lake Lanier and freelined bluebacks, white bucktails, and Spro Mc Sticks are working well. It is great to catch 30 plus pound stripers up in 3 or 4 feet of water. There are stripers in the backs of all stained creeks north and south. The crappie fishing has also been very good this week.

Our crappie guide has been doing well on his trips using chartreuse jigs and minnows under docks and around brush. Spring is finally here and the fishing are biting well most mornings.

Shane Watson Guide Service Report (02-25-11). Several of our group spent most of the last week in Miami for my boat sponsor Carolina Skiff. The show, the weather, and the Miami scene was great. We were there to promote the new 2300 Elite SS and their new line of deck boats.

While we were gone, we had boats out on guide trips everyday. Since getting back, the striper fishing on my boat the last couple of mornings has been really good. The stripers were up shallow and the blowups on freelined bluebacks were amazing. We have finally made it thru winter and the water temps have risen 7 or 8 degrees since last week before we left for Miami. This increase has the stripers moving back in the creeks and has got their metabolism fired backup again.

Your best bet is to freeline bluebacks, cast bucktails and Spro Mc Sticks to as many banks and docks as possible. There are stripers in the middle to the back of most every creek on the lake right now. Some mornings they have been rolling on top, some mornings they have not. If you don't see them on top, don't worry, many of the fish we've caught the last couple of trips have been blind pulling of shallow in creeks. For us, freelined bluebacks are out producing trout and gizzard right now. It is a great time of the year to be out there, the stripers are firing back up and the weather is great.

Shane Watson Guide Service Report 2-9-11.

Your best bet is to fish free lined and planer board bluebacks, trout, and gizzard shad in the backs to the middle of creeks. Cast a white ½ oz. buck tail or a Spro Mc Stick to the banks while you are free lining. Look for single stripers boiling on top.

We are seeing a decent shad kill and the seagulls are a little of a distraction right now as they are diving randomly and picking up dieing bait. If they are tightly bunched up, hovering, and diving in one place, then that’s what you are looking for. If they pick up one piece and then fly on, that’s shad kill. Capt. Mack’s 4 arm u-rigs pulled over humps are catching a few as well.

Sorry for not having any pictures, one of my customers accidently picked up my camera when getting off the boat and are shipping it back to me.
