Shane Watson's Lake Lanier Fishing Report 05-08-09. The fishing has been very good most days on Lake Lanier. Our boats have been out on trips everyday since my last report and many things have been working. We have caught stripers of all sizes, spots up to 7 pounds (all have been released), a 6 pound Walleye, and a 4 pound Rainbow Trout. Freelined bluebacks, Redfins, Chugbugs, Spooks, Sebile's, and Buckeye Wakeups are all working well. Try to fish as many points and shallow humps as you can and you will catch fish. You might catch a striper on one cast and a big spotted bass the next. The bigger stripers are still up shallow and freelines and the lures mentioned above will produce bigger stripers right now. We have also done well on 4-10 pound stripers on downline bluebacks fished 20 feet deep over a 30 foot bottom on and just off points. Some days the fish have been busting on top well and the topwater bite has been great. Somedays they have been a little deeper and downlines have worked better. Overall, the fishing has been good on Lake Lanier. Expect a mix of species when fishing up shallow right now. It is a great time of the year to take kids or people that are new to fishing, as the action is good. This report is brought to you by Shane Watson Guide Service www.lakelanierstripers.com and Hammond's Fishing Center. We Appreciate Everyone's Business. Good Fishing.

The mission of the Lake Lanier Convention & Visitors Bureau should be relatively straight-forward. Its responsibility is to keep people visiting Gainesville and the surrounding areas of Lake Lanier. A beautiful lake an hour north of Atlanta should be an easy sell.
However, their task has been tricky in the last few years with a national recession and two years of low water levels in Lake Lanier. The CVB staff have worked to counter-act negative news about the lake and this week they unveiled a new website to attract visitors from Atlanta: SlipAwayToday.com.
Stacey Shelton at the AJC is reporting tha the nonprofit environmental organization "Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper" has caught the city of Cumming breaking clean water laws.
The city is looking to build an aquatic center, and during the search they apparently bulldozed through a stream near Lake Lanier on Pilgrim Mill Road. The UCR called in inspectors from Georgia Environmental Protection Division who confirmed that the construction activity was sending mud and silt into Lake Lanier.
Representatives from Georgia, Florida and Alabama regularly get to together on a conference call with the Corps of Engineers to discuss water issues. Thursday's call produced bad news for Georgia and Lake Lanier.
The Corps of Engineers denied metro Atlanta’s request to minimize water releases from Lake Lanier for another month. It was good news for Florida and Alabama who opposed the corps' decision last year to reduce releases from November through April 30.
