The large population of gamefish inhabiting Lake Lanier include striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie and other popular species. Trout fishing below Buford Dam rates among the best in the state. The cool waters released by the dam provide an excellent habitat for brook, rainbow and brown trout. However, fishermen should exercise extreme caution when water is released during power generation.

Marvel at the beautiful wildlife that abounds in the area - many species of birds, some migratory, frequent the project as well as squirrels, rabbits, deer, fowl, turtles and other animals. To protect wildlife, visitors and adjacent land owners, hunting and possession of firearms are prohibited on project lands and waters. Colorful dogwoods, sturdy hardwoods and other vegetation make Lake Lanier's surroundings among the South's most beautiful rustic areas.
