The WWW on Internet offers many great sites for anyone interested in Genealogy. Some sites are good for researching specific surnames, others are good as references of where to find things. Below are some sites I have found as I look around the web: CYNDI'S LIST OF GENEALOGY SITES -- This is the "motherlode" of genealogy sites, listing 7,900 links to various other genealogy sites on the WWW. http://www.oz.net/~cyndihow/sites.htm US SURNAME DISTRIBUTION -- This site is sponsored by Hamrick Software and offers a graphical map of the US, showing the distribution intensity of the top 50,000 surnames. Shows a good, clear pattern in the SE, out through Texas and California for the Mixon family. http://www.hamrick.com/names/ HELMS GENEALOGY TOOLBOX-- This site(created by Matthew Helm)is a great place to to search for others that are researching specific names AND to post a note, telling people what surnames you are researching. http://genealogy.tbox.com/genealogy.html RAND GENEALOGY CLUB -- This site was created for RAND employees, but they welcome anyone. Another good place to search, by surname, for others doing research on specific names. Also, you can post a note, telling others what names you are researching. http://www.rand.org/personal/Genea/ OTHER HELPFUL WEB SITES: SWITCHBOARD -- This site is like a national telephone directory with phone, address and zip code. Not everyone is here but you can find lots of Mixons with name search by city, state, etc. http://www.switchboard.com USPS ZIP CODE LOOKUP -- Here, you can find the zip code (9 digit) on any US address, very helpful when you need a quick zip to mail a letter. http://www.usps.gov/ncsc/lookups/lookup_zip+4.html YAHOO -- This is an excellent search engine. It allows you to enter a key word and it will search for all listings on the WWW against that word.
