Administration - Enhanced 911 Service - Police Protection Georgia State Patrol - Georgia Bureau of Investigation Other Government Agencies GOVERNMENT Gainesville - Mayor is rotated from a five-member City Council for two-year terms. The council members are elected for three- to four-year terms. A City Manager is appointed by the Council. Hall County - A five-member Board of Commissioners is elected for four-year terms. A County Administrator is appointed by the Commission. The County Commission Chairman is elected by voters. Oakwood, Flowery Branch, Clermont, Lula, Gillsville and Gainesville - have elected mayors and councils. Chestnut Mountain, Chicopee, Murrayville and New Holland - are all unincorporated towns.CITY AND COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL SERVICES In 1979, construction was completed on the 42,000 square foot, joint City-County Administration Building. The complex houses government departments that were housed in several City-County Annexes. This permits centralization of service agencies, increased efficiency and better accessibility. The construction created a quadrangle with City Hall, the Courthouse, and the Georgia Mountains Center. Joint services presently include a Joint Planning Director, Joint Personnel Director, Civil Defense Director, Chief Registrar, Tax Commissioner, Chief Tax Appraiser, Chief Tax Assessor, Inspection Department, Water Department, Community Development, Housing and Relocation Department. Other government services operate separately. County government offices and the Hall County Board of Education are located in the Government Education Building at 711 Green Street. The Hall County Commission, Hall County Parks & Leisure Services, Finance, Purchasing, Internal Audit, and several state agencies are also located in the building. City government offices are located at 300 Green Street in the Combined Administration Building. The Gainesville City Board of Education is located at 850 Woods Mill Road and the City Parks and Recreation Department offices are in the Civic Building on Green Street. Georgia Bureau of Investigation The station is located at 2000-A Cleveland Highway. It covers the following counties: Cherokee, Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White. Call 770-535-5423. The new G.B.I. Gainesville Regional Drug Enforcement Office is located at 163 Enota Avenue. The Gainesville RDEO is a part of the Drug Enforcement Section of the G.B.I. that covers 26 counties in northeast Georgia.
