Gainesville City Schools

The Gainesville City School System, with over a century of

tradition, continues to retain its position of one of the state's most

outstanding. It consistently ranks significantly above the average in

ratio of local financial support, staff qualifications, staff

stability, professional training,student achievement, innovative

programs and low teacher-pupil ratio. The Gainesville City

School System is comprised of five schools, all accredited "With

Quality" by the Georgia Accreditation Commission. Centennial and Enota

Primary Schools serve grades kindergarten through third. Enota is a

past state 'School of Excellence', Centennial recently received the

Outstanding Elementary School Media Center in the

State Award. Both primary schools have full time Counselors and Music,

Art, Physical Education, Health and Gifted Staff as do all of the

schools. In addition to its regular instructional program, a Saturday

School Program for elementary children is offered twice a year. Fair

Street Elementary serves grades four and five. It recently received

the Outstanding Elementary School-Business Partnership in the State

Award. All fifth grade classes are computer-networked and Literature

and American History instruction is integrated. Gainesville Middle

School covers grades six through eight and offers a wide array of

exploratory classes as well as a strong academic program (for the past

two years, Gainesville Middle School has been one of ten top ranked

schools in the state for eighth grade achievement in all five academic

areas.) Students in grades nine through twelve attend Gainesville

High School. Gainesville High School offers a complete range of

Advanced Placement and Honors courses, comprehensive programs in both

vocational and technology curriculum (recently incorporated a formal

Apprenticeship and Mentor Program in addition to Tech Prep.)

Gainesville High School, also a recent State School of Excellence, has

a seventy-five percent advanced degree staff, a tradition of

Governors Honors participants and National Merit Scholar recipients,

test scores consistently in the top 10% in the state, consistent

increase in SAT scores over the past fifteen years, a newly opened

state-of-the-art Fine Arts Center for its state and national award

winning drama and debate programs, state recognized athletic program

and Media Center accessibility to local university libraries. The

Gainesville City School System has approximately 3,020 students with

active Parent-Teacher Organizations at each learning site. Test scores

at the schools rank in the top fifteen to twenty percent of the state.

The average SAT score for seniors is impressively above the state

average which is especially significant in light of the higher percent

of city students taking the test as compared with surrounding systems

and in the state as a whole. In the lower grades, test scores rank

students in the top 15% of Georgia students in math, language arts,

science and social studies. For more information, contact:
