Lake Lanier Fishing Report - Great Striper Fishing ContinuesShane Watson Guide Service Report.

The leadcore striper bite continues to be great on Lake Lanier. We are seeing many 10 to 20 pound fish on chartreuse and blue 1 oz jigs tipped with a chartreuse paddle tail. We have also had some great downline fishing over the last week or so, but leadcore has been best. There are fish out over the main channel and in deeper coves and bays just of the main lake.

The mouths of creeks have also been good. We are catching some on top water as they have been a few stripers up busting at times. Look for big schools of surfacing stripers over the next 4 to 6 weeks and cast a Spro Dawg, a Redfin, a Spook, or a small bucktail to these surfacing fish. Freelined bluebacks will also work on these topwater fish.

Fishing Report for Lake Lanier

The late summer striper bite continues on Lake Lanier. I saw some 79 degree surface temps at daylight this morning. Since my last report the striper fishing has been strong most days. The last 2 days have been exceptional on leadcore and on downline bluebacks.

The boat traffic has been low and the fishing pressure has been lower. The fish have been bunched up and biting well. We are still catching many fish out over the main channel and as you can see on my graph from today, we are getting on some nice schools over a 50 to 60 foot bottom. Many of you have e-mailed and called wanting to see what jig set up I am using, so here is photo of the chartreuse one.

The other setup is a white jig with a Shadalicious paddle tail. We have also got on a few schools of busting stripers and caught them on Spro Dawgs. We expect a great topwater bite over the next 2 months as the surface temps continue to drop.

lake Lanier FishingShane Watson Guide Service Report (08-19-10).

Since my last report the striper fishing has been great, but this morning they were on fire. Our boats caught and released many, many stripers up to 22 pounds this morning on leadcore and on downlined bluebacks. It was the best leadcore fishing that I've seen this summer for size and numbers. Leadcore 9 colors out at 3.0 mph with a white 1 ounce jig tipped with a Shadalicious or Basstrix trailer has working best for me.

Our boats also did very well this morning on downlined bluebacks fished 70 to 80 feet deep over a 100 foot or so bottom. Overall, the striper fishing has been great. This morning brought some of the best striper fishing we've seen this summer, so far.

Leadcore and downlined bluebacks continue to produce day in and day out on Lake Lanier. Somedays have been much better than others since my last report. We've had some trips with 30 to 40 caught and released and the next day work for 4 or 5 stripers. The most consistent producer has been leadcore fished 9 colors out at 3.0 mph with a white 1 oz. jig and a Shadalicious or Basstrix paddle tail. Live bluebacks and Capt. Mack's chartreuse grubs will also work fine on the leadcore.

On days when they have bunched up and would stick around, we have done very well on downlined bluebacks fished 35 to 80 feet deep. On days when they have been choosey or scattered, leadcore has out produced live bait 10 to 1. The are groups of fish showing up in many places. There are smaller size stripers on a 40 to 60 foot bottom on and just off points and flats just off the main lake. The are stripers in the mouths to the middle of most deep creek channels.

Our better size fish continue to come on, and just off the main channel. There are not as many numbers out there at times, but the average size is much better. Keep moving until you find fish. Some days they have really ate the downlines well while dragging them around. I never have been a big fan of dragging downlines, but much like our leadcore success, somedays the stripers want to chase the baits. Also, we are seeing a lot of fish in the trees at times. Power reeling and downlines have worked on these fish, but expect to use many jigs and live bait rigs when fishing over and down in the trees.

Lake Lanier FishingShane Watson Guide Service Report (07-21-10 thru 08-08-10).

The striper fishing has been very good most days since my last report. We went down to Panama City on vacation and I've been out everyday since coming back. The king mackerel and amberjack fishing was great down there on jigs, dusters, and on cigar minnows. The beaches were great and the water were perfectly clear with no signs of oil. We saw a lot of oil clean up workers sitting around everyday, but there was no oil. Everything seemed pretty normal down there, the roads and the restaraunts were crowded, but there weren't many charter boats running. I hate to see how this deal has affected the charter industry in Panama City. They've had no oil, the fishing is great, and the water is perfect. They blame the media as much as BP for their losses.

Back here, I had boats out on trips everyday since my last report. Since I came back earlier this week, the leadcore bite has been on fire using a white 1 oz. jig, 9 colors out at 2.5 to 3.0 mph. White trailers, paddle tails, and live bluebacks are all working well on the jigs. Live bluebacks on a downline fished 30 to 50 feet deep over a 70 to 100 foot bottom are also working. Mid-lake on further south is producing best. Look in the mouths of creeks, the mouths of deeper coves, and over the channel.
