Lake Lanier FishingShane Watson Guide Service Report, 7-07-10 thru 7-20-10.

The striper fishing remains strong most days on Lake Lanier. Our boats have been out everyday on both morning and afternoon trips. Freshly changed, quality live bluebacks on a downline are working best. Fish your bluebacks 30 to 40 feet deep over a 35 to 80 foot bottom in the mouths of creeks and just off the main channel. There are fish starting to show up in decent numbers out over the main river channel, but we are a couple of weeks or so away from this pattern. Leadcore is producing a few daily.

We are seeing some great top water fishing on a Spro Dawg and on a Spook on points and humps after the sun gets up high. I haven’t seen this good a late morning, summertime top water bite since years 2001 – 2002. Overall, the striper fishing is strong on Lake Lanier if you are on active fish.

The striper fishing has been very good most days since my last report. Downlined bluebacks fished 30 feet deep over a 35 to 45 foot bottom for the first 2 hours or so have produced well.

After the sun gets up high, downlined bluebacks fished 30 to 50 feet deep over a 60 to 80 foot bottom have worked best. The morning and afternoon have both been good. Leadcore fished 9 colors out at 3.0 mph on a white 1 oz jig, tipped with a live blueback is also producing some nice fish. We've caught and released many, many stripers the last 10 days up to 20 pounds on our boats.

Fish in the mouths to the middle of creeks and on main lake humps and points for best results. Mid-lake and south are best for size and numbers. I went up north over 4th of July weekend to avoid the boat traffic and did well in the mouths of deeper creeks, but the bait dies on the hook up north pretty quick.

Mid-lake and south, the bait will do better on the hook. Fish up on points and humps early and then further out as the suns gets high. This report is brought to you by Shane Watson Guide Service, Hammond's Fishing Center, and Carolina Skiff Boats. Good Fishing.

Lake Lanier Fishing

Shane Watson Guide Service Report (06-11-10).

The striper fishing has been great on Lake Lanier this week and this morning was no exception. We caught and released many stripers up to 15 pounds on downlined bluebacks fished 25-30 feet deep over a 35 to 60 foot bottom in the middle to the mouths of creeks. Our boats have been out on guide trips everyday and several things have been working.

Downline bluebacks continue to produce best. Capt. Mack's 4 arm u-rigs are also working well and some of our boats have done well on Spro Dawgs, McSticks, Super Spooks, and on Redfins. These baits are producing a mix of stripers and big spots. Overall, the striper fishing has been great and will only improve on into July, August, and September.

Since my last report we've had all of our boats out on guide trips everyday. We've caught stripers up to 35 pounds on downlined bluebacks fished 25 to 40 feet deep over a 35 to 70 foot bottom just off points and humps.

Some of our boats are still catching a few fish early on a freeline, on a Spro Dawg, a Super Spook, and on a Redfin and then switching over to a downline. On my boat we have started out downlining at daylight and the numbers and size have been good every morning. Leadcore is also producing out on the main lake both north and south. Capt. Mack's 4 arm u-rigs are also catching fish.

Many things are working on the stripers. I think the biggest thing is being on active fish, without boats being right on top of you.

Lake Lanier FishingShane Watson Guide Service Report (5-31-10).

The striper fishing was very good last week and over Memorial weekend. We've had our boats out on morning and afternoon guide trips daily and the north and southend are about equal. Downlined and power reeled bluebacks fished 20 to 25 feet deep over a 30 to 35 foot bottom has worked best. After the sun gets up high, move out over a 70 to 80 foot bottom. Fish your downlines on or just off points for best success. A couple of our boats have also done well trolling Capt. Mack's u-rigs.

We've had several 40 to 50 fish catch and release mornings the past 7 days. We've also had some days when the numbers have been less. It all depends on how many boats are around you when you are on fish, and if you can get to your fishing spots by yourself. The topwater bite has pretty much non-existent on the stripers.

You might catch a few on a Redfin or a jerk bait if you stick with it and keep moving. Bluebacks on a downline are out producing everything else, with u-rigs not far behind. I went up the lake over the Memorial weekend to get away from the fishing pressure and the fishing was great on 30-35 foot slick bottom points. You will find smaller stripers and spots around the points with brush, but our bigger fish have been on a slick 30-35 foot bottom.

Overall, this striper fishing has been very good and will only get better over the next 120 days. This report is brought to you by Shane Watson Guide Service www.lakelanierstripers.com, Hammond's Fishing Center, and Carolina Skiff Boats. Good Fishing.
