I wasn't going to mention it but ... yes, Gainesville is where I've heard most of these complaints. The square is devoid of like and populated by slowly dying old-ladies clothes shops ... but rules like that means that restaurants can't make it either.

Sure Steve! One of the best places ever to locate here in G'ville was Rhythem & Brews. The place was standing room only Thurs-Sat. Yet, forced out of business by the food/alcohol ratio. . . so I was told. But then I also heard the owner of the building raised his rent higher and higher, until the business owner said enough and shut down. Sad that we can't have fun eateries/drinkeries all around the square.

I hear you MAD JAX Its a tough set of restriction for local businesses to bear. I've heard from a good number of people that rules just like this are to blame for the quiet nature of downtown areas around here.

Great! Now let's stop penalizing those family-run small business elsewhere in Forsyth County that happen to locate near of any Church or School...allow them purchase of a "Conditional Alcohol Sales Permit" so they can sell Beer & Wine during those hours the Churches & Schools aren't operational...I know of several business' nearby My home that have struggled -- if not bellied-up altogether -- for trying to make their Food-Service business function sans Alcohol Sales, and it's just a fact that SOMEONE in any group desires a mug of Beer or glass of Wine with their meal, and the entire entourage will go elsewhere for it...that's inherently un-fair. I realize many in this County harbor reservations about such sales nearby Churches and Schools, but why completely deny the county its potential revenue, a Family business greater success, and Citizen Patrons of their desires for Others Subjective Morality...when they're NOT present! A balanced solution offers just such a "Conditional Consumption Permit" available that allows only "On-Site" Beer & Wine during those hours.
