Lake Lanier saw some raindrops yesterday but it was not enough to keep the lake from continuing to drop.  The lake level is still over 4 feet from full pool.  The summer heat is taking a toll on the water level by slowly evaporating millions of gallons of water per day.  A small drop in the lake level represents a lot of water spread across a very large area.  Since June 14th, the lake has dropped half an inch.  The current lake level is 1066.64.

The water level at Lake Lanier has not much this week.  The lake is currently at 1066.69.  The air temperature at the lake has been in the upper 80's all week and the temperature is expected to climb into the upper 90's this weekend.  Hopefully the lake level will continue to stay steady or rise, however water evaporation can quickly drop the lake level.  Get your boats ready and head out to Lake Lanier this weekend!

The water Lake Lanier leveled off and now is started to drop with this weekend's hot weather.  The lake level currently stands at 1066.63.  The lake has dropped almost an inch since last week.  Lake Lanier has started its annual Summer decent.  We can expect 90 degree weather at Lake Lanier for several months now and we can also expect a drop at Lake Lanier.  The question is "how low will it go?"  Despite the hot weather, it was a very nice weekend to be on Lake Lanier.  Boat traffic at Lake Lanier was heavy with several crowded ramps.
Lake Lanier is still picking up small, steady gains despite the dry weekend.  The lake level currently stands at 1065.12 which is 4.88 feet below full pool.  There is a chance of rain from Wednesday-Friday this week.  It is the first day of June and we are expected to see the highest temperatures so far this year.  There will be some evaporation at the lake today but the rain later in the week should make up for any loss.

Lake Lanier News

Lake Lanier is up at 1066.15 today which is 4.85 feet below full pool.  The lake is quickly catching up to the 2007 lake level.  I have noticed a large amount of people that have lost interest in the lake level at Lake Lanier.  Now is not the time to be loosing focus on the water level.  Summer is not officially here and we are already seeing above normal temperatures.  Also the tri-state water war is not over with the states battling over water storage and management of Lake Lanier.  We can see Lake Lanier water level dip just as fast as it went up.  Please continue to monitor the lake level at Lake Lanier and not loose focus because we had a rainy season that boosted the lake temporarily.

Lake Lanier is getting some rain this morning and there are supposed to be some scattered thunderstorms later in the day.  The rain will restore the small increments of evaporation that has occurred during this week's hot weather.  Looking more long term, the judge that is residing in the court battle over the water in Lake Lanier, is expected to make a decision around the end of the summer.  The judge will decide whether or not Northeast Georgia and Atlanta have rights to use the water in Lake Lanier for drinking water.  Last night, the 1071 Coalition heard from Jerry Barnes, the Corps manual update director that is pushing for the Corps to revise the decades-old water management manual.  The 1071 Coalition is also performing a study on the economic impact the water level has had on Lake Lanier businesses.  The economic study has revealed that the water level drop had a very high impact on the lake area economy.

I will monitor the lake level today and post updates as the rain continues to move in.

What a day for visiting Lake Lanier!

Lake Lanier is currently at 1066.58 and that means the lake is only down by 4.42 feet.  The rain we received this week helped the lake level by 5 inches!  The weather today is going to make it an excellent day for going to Lake Lanier.  The temp is going to be in the lower 80s and the sun will be out all day.  I am heading up to the lake this afternoon, I hope to see a large crowd.  Have a safe day on the water and wear your PFD.

Lake Lanier has reached the same lake level that has not been seen since 2007.  The lake level is 1066.64 which is only 4.36 feet below full pool.  This is an important milestone for Lake Lanier because it does show that the lake level has improved dramatically. Where will the lake go from here?  Will the lake level try to reach for a level not seen since 2006?  We will have to wait and see what the summer heat and Lake Lanier water releases do to the overall lake level.  There is a chance of rain this week and as long as the rain continues Lake Lanier will continue to recover.  Get out and enjoy Lake Lanier.

Lake Lanier is Returning To Normal

Lake Lanier is slowly returning to normal after the increase in the water level. The lake level stands at 1066.68.  The lowest water level at Lake Lanier was 1050.79 on December 26, 2007.  Lake Lanier has not seen full pool 1071.00 since September 6, 2005.  With the drought diminishing the Corps of Engineers are now reissuing dock permits.  Today, a decision will be made about loosening up water restrictions that has gripped us since the drought began 2 years ago.  Hopefully we can wash our cars and water our grass!
