Lake Lanier received a deluge of rain last night that has risen the lake 3 inches. The water level at Lake Lanier is currently at 1071.88 and rising with over 6,000 CFS of water pouring into the lake. Heavy rains pelted the region last night along with high winds that brought some trees down near the lake.
Meanwhile, the fight for the water that Lake Lanier holds is still ongoing. On December 15th in Montgomery, the tri-state Governors will meet “to discuss the ongoing water dispute between the three states,” as a press release stated. There are not many viable options for Georgia except to come up with an agreement with Alabama and Florida. Georgia was hoping for Congress to step in to help but they are tied up with other major issues. There was also talk of transferring water from other river basins for Atlanta but many cities within Georgia disagree with those plans. Lake Lanier is full for now but it might not be the case when an agreement is drawn up.
