The Formula Drift Series is returning to Road Atlanta on May 6 and 7.
Drifting is a high-skill, high-powered motor sport that calls for drivers to control a car while it slides sideways at high speed through a marked course. It is similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed, paved course. It is judged on execution and style rather than just time.
The Formula Drift® competition at Road Atlanta will be conducted in the Turn 10 complex, a right left-right-hand combination that will require the drifting competitors to quickly change direction while in full drift mode. The competition will include Friday qualifying to determine a 16-car field for the finals Saturday, with two cars paired together on consecutive runs (one leads, then they switch). A panel of professional drifting drivers will determine the bracket winners.
You can enter to win free tickets by going to www.iamformulad.com and entering their information there. Winners will be selected and tickets will be placed at will call
Here is a photo of customer Alain S. with a trophy Lake Lanier Striper we caught this morning. This fish weighed 39 pounds and was caught on a freelined blueback 50 feet behind the boat. This fish was weighed, photographed, and released to fight another day.
It looks as if a $130 million resort might not be coming to Mary Alice Park in Cumming. Back in 2007 we announced that a hotel and water park had been approved for Mary Alice Park in Cumming.
Registration for participants is open for the UYC Maritime Foundation Boat Parade of Lights, set for Lake Lanier on Saturday, December 4. This year’s event will include “A Taste of the Lake” and activities for every age at Aqualand Marina. Phil Niekro and Bruce Erion will be masters of ceremonies.
Some of the top ranked dogs in the sport of dock diving will compete September 25-26 at the Lake Lanier Pet Fest in Gainesville, Georgia. Dixie Dock Dogs, a non-profit organization benefitting various canine charities, is producing this thrilling event which features dogs jumping great lengths to splash down into a pool of water. Covering the entire state of Georgia, Dixie Dock Dogs is affiliated with the national organization DockDogs.
The Forrest Wood Cup is the "Super Bowl of Fishing" and its coming to Lake Lanier in August.
This will be the largest event held in the Lake Lanier area since the 1996 Olympics. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected with the winning fisherman receiving a $1 million prize.
The tournament will be held at Laurel Park on the north side of Gainesville from August 5th through August 8th. The Forrest Wood Cup has just announced more details of the competition including the location and the weigh-ins and then family entertainment that will accompany the event.

Congratulations to our sponsor and local fishing guide Shane:
On January 12, 2010, Lake Lanier fishing guide Shane Watson was inducted into The Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame for the year 2010 as a Legendary Guide.
This is a prestigious honor as only 56 people have been recognized as a Legendary Guide since 1992.
There are only 2 to 3 people inducted each year worldwide. Inductees are selected by a national committee of peers including Legendary Fisherman Forrest Wood. Inductees are selected for their contribution, dedication, and service to the freshwater sport fishing industry.
A statement from the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame reads, by induction to the Hall, Shane Watson's pioneering spirit will always be remembered. The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame is located in Hayward, Wisconsin.
