Lake Lanier Kayak Fishing for late June

Written by
Over the past week I have been fishing Lanier and also the Hooch below lanier for trout.  The trout have been heavily stocked!  I ended up with some nice ones for dinner last week and have never seen so many trout in my life!  The trick to catching them was patience though and I suspect they will be biting better this week.  Small spinners and light test line are key to getting these tasty fish to bite.  I also caught and released small brown trout, most were around blow-downs on the sides of the river.

My past few trips on Lanier have been great!  The weather is getting warm, the fish are starting to move deeper and hitting the downlines.  Still catching some fat spotted bass like the one pictured below.  The spots are coming up on top until around 8 around mainlake points and humps.  Downlined bluebacks have been working well for stripers.  Some kayak anglers are also having success with trolled bucktail jigs.

Nothing like a beautiful sunrise over lanier!
