Lake Lanier Jumps One Foot After Recent Rain

Written by
The water level at Lake Lanier has jumped up to 1072.31 which is one foot higher than it was on Monday.  The heavy rains have left for now but will return again this weekend.  The COE is now stating that it will have Lake Lanier lowered to 1070 by December 16-18th if there are no additional rain events.  However we know that rain is coming again this weekend that will hamper those efforts.  The COE was criticized for releasing water from Lake Lanier during the flood in September, now the COE does not release water at all during rain events to keep the areas below Lake Lanier from additional flooding.  Currently, the COE is not releasing water because of continued runoff into the Chattahoochee River in Vinings. Until the water in the river recedes the COE will hold water back in Lake Lanier.
