Lake Lanier Association receives donation from Forsyth County

Written by

The Lake Lanier Association announced this week that it has received a $10,000 gift.     The donation comes from Forsyth County, and the money will go to the association's legal defense fund to support its participation in the Tri-States 'Water Wars' cases.

"We are thrilled to receive this money from Forsyth County and would like to thank all the commissioners for their support," said Jackie Joseph, Lake Lanier Association president.   "The funds will benefit the association's continued intervention in this important litigation."

The Lake Lanier Association has been involved in the Tri-States litigation since 2001 and is representing the interests of all Lake Lanier stakeholders.   A federal judge is hearing all the cases in a Florida court and is expected to rule this year.

"The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners supports the Lake Lanier Association and their efforts to maintain a sufficient water supply for the area's growing needs," Forsyth County Chairman Charles Laughinghouse said.

Forsyth County Commissioners voted in favor of the donation after Lake Lanier Association board officers attended commission meetings outlining its legal involvement   to keep Lake Lanier as close to full pool as possible.

"The Lake Lanier Association's commitment to keep the lake full benefits Forsyth County by increasing economic and recreational opportunities and helping property owners maintain the value of their homes," Forsyth County Commissioner Brian Tam said.

The Lake Lanier Association is a membership-based 501c3 nonprofit organization committed to a clean and full Lake Lanier to enhance its economic value to Georgia.
