Just a few weeks ago the Forsyth County School Board approved the iAchieve, which is a learning enviromnet for middle and high school students. The school sees it as an expansion of what they are already doing, but I see it as another step in giving their students the tools to succeed.
Forsyth County Schools have also anounced recently that they will suffer no teacher cuts, the same type of cuts that every other school system in Metro Atlanta has had to face. Parents around the Metro area are upset with program cuts like band/orchestra, languages and more. But Forsyth County Schools not only manage to avoid that, they increase the offering for their students - how is that? I’m not sure how, but they are doing it right.
Several aspects of the academy, which will begin this fall, will be just like any other county school. The curriculum is the same, students must still take standardized tests, and the courses offered are required to receive a high school diploma. The academy was designed for home school students, those seeking schedule flexibility or motivated pupils to take courses beyond their current workload.
There is a reason people moving into the area from other states are searching for homes in Forysth County and choosing to put their kids into Forsyth County Schools and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
