Lake Lanier got a small boost from the first round of stormy weather today. Was it enough to see 1060? The lake level information for the day has not been announced yet; as soon as it is I will post it here. Even if we did not get to 1060 tonight, we still have a greater chance with the second round of storms tonight through Saturday.
According to the poll, the majority of you said that you would return to Lake Lanier if the lake level reached 1065 and once again use the lake for recreation. Will this storm system be the one that gets you on the water this year? Stay tuned....www.savelakelanier.com
If you are looking for a luxury home on Lake Lanier there are plenty of homes to choose from. Personally, I have always been a big fan of the “cabin” look in a luxury home. If you like lake living then I would think a lot of people would like it to, however, it is actually pretty rare to find a luxury log cabin or features that remind of you cabin on Lake Lanier.

Lake Lanier Luxury Home
There is one particular listing that I found while searching the MLS system that has some exquisite “cabin” features and it is truly a Lake Lanier Luxury Home. This 5 bedroom home is located in the Cumberland on Lanier subdivision, which is in Gainesville off Browns Bridge Road. What kind of hardwood floors would you expect to find in a home like this?? Antique Pine Floors, of course! I love the look of pine floors, it really brings that old look feel to a home! It also has a floor to ceiling stone fireplace, vaulted wood ceilings, Gourmet Kitchen with farm sink , a pet shower in the laundry room, hammered copper sinks in all the baths, and a heated gunite pool. But what really makes a luxury home?? The outdoor space! This home has a very large screened in porch with fireplace, 2 outdoor decks and a stoned path leading down to the 900 sq.ft boat dock. All this for just 2.6 million!

Don’t like the cabin feel look, no problem. How about a luxury home with lofts of amenities?
Like a private tennis court and a private beach? Well, you’re in luck! There is another listing in Gainesville with 5 bedrooms that has all these amenities and it is very secluded! Just take a look at the picture! This home definitely has more a traditional look on the inside but if you like to entertain, this might be the perfect home!
We also compiled a list of additoinal Lake Lanier Luxury homes which can be found by clicking here.

Heavy rain is expected to fall over the area for the next few days. Strong thunderstorms and heavy rains are coming. Lake Lanier’s water level stands ready for another increase.
I personally would like to see the lake gain enough water to reach 1061 feet, which is only 10 feet below full pool. Currently the lake is at 1059. I will post daily notices of increases at the lake on this website so check back often for the latest water level information at Lake Lanier. ***For more information please visit www.savelakelanier.com

Lake Lanier as many of you know has been suffering a severe drought, but the good news is we are heading in the right direction and have been for many months. We are just under 13.0 feet below full pool, where last year we were at 20.0 feet below full pool.
We are expected to get 2 inches of rain over the Lake Lanier Basin this weekend, so we may be closer to 11-20 feet below full SUMMER pool. This lake can actually thrive at 10.0 feet below full pool without too much difficulty.
So we went to our local marina in Flowery Branch, GA, Starboard Marina who has suffered the most from this drought. They are located back in a cove and so all the boat docks have been dry for over a year. There is also a nice restaurant there which has suffered greatly as boaters could not get back in there to dock their boats an enjoy some GRUB and drinks.
Well the marina has been doing some major dredging of this cove. They have moved all the docks to one side and are digging a deeper cover to allow the water to fill this marina back up so that boaters can enjoy their marina once again. They are also adding a large parking area to the marina.
Sometimes you just have to make lemon aide out of lemons and Starboard Marina in Flowery Branch, GA is doing this now.
There are some issues with the "mud" that is created from the dredging flowing into nearby coves where people have lake front property so this is a concern that the corps of engineers does not seem to take too seriously from the owners that I have talked to that are affected. All we can hope for is that once they fill the marina with water, this "mud" will wash out of these coves and cleaner water will return.

Our February 2009 Lake Lanier Real Estate Market Report is complete and ready for your review. During February, the market continued its slow pace in the number of lakefront homes with docks sold on Lake Lanier according to the statistics that we review in First Multiple Listing Service.
The average sale price of the homes sold in February 2009 was down on a year over year basis when compared to February of 2008. This year is beginning slowly for Lake Lanier real estate sales. However, we are continuing to get much needed rain and the lake is still on the rise. I am optimistic that a Lake Lanier with a higher water mark can only improve Lake Lanier real estate activity!
Our market analysis is generated at the beginning of each month. It is designed to show you Lake Lanier home sales statistics. Each month, we search the First Multiple Listing Service for home sales (closings) based on the following criteria:
There are two fishing tournaments coming up in the next two weeks at Little Hall Park.

Via the latest 1071 Coalition newsletter, comes this update on the tri-state water conflict. Sign up for their newsletter here.
"In October 2008, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted five public scoping meetings in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia for preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) regarding implementation of an updated Water Control Manual for the ACF River Basin. More than 1,000 stakeholders participated in the public meetings, including several members of the 1071 Coalition, and nearly 2,300 comments were submitted during the formal scoping period which ended in November.
Comments received were organized into 12 categories, and according to the Corps, "Water Management Recommendations"; was the number one issue area identified during the scoping process, with 868 related comments received. Water management as it is being carried out under the current, but outdated operations plan is of critical concern to the members of the 1071 Coalition, particularly since storage in Lake Lanier has been affectively abandoned in recent decades. Managed storage is essential to the health of the lake since it sits on such a small watershed, thereby having much less impact from rainfall than other reservoirs downstream.
The Corps has indicated that completing the EIS and Water Control Manual update will take approximately three years, with a Draft EIS anticipated to be available for public review in the spring of 2010. 1071 Coalition representatives will continue to monitor the process and work to impact the manual update so that deliberate water storage in Georgia's largest reservoir is returned as a key component to the management plan."

Recent rains have re-opened 6 Mile Creek boat ramp. This ramp has not been open for over a year and a half. When the level gets to 1058.00, the Corps should open quite a few more. This should happen this week.
When boating on Lanier as the lake rises, watch out for floating debris. The last 2 mornings on my guide trips, we could only run about 25 miles an hour or so, for dodging all types of debris. There are logs, sticks, trash, and beer bottles floating in many places. We also saw many pieces of floating dock foam, all types of wood from dock planks to, 2 x 4's and 4x4's, to big sheets of plywood floating on top and just under the surface. I probably saw 50 plastic lawn chairs floating. These item will not only tear up your boat, but could cause injury to boaters if hit under full power. If you own a dock, please make sure these items are secured, as they always seem to wind up floating in the lake.
On a more positive note, it is great to see our water levels rising and more boat ramps re-opening.
Lake Lot on Autumn Hill Drve
Price: $99,500.00
Lot Size: 1.067 acres
MLS Info: FMLS# 3758103
6239 Autumn Hill Drive @ Grants Ford
Just over one acre on a nice quiet cove. Great lake
neighborhood. Lot does not have a dock currently, but
the gentle slope would be perfect for parking a pontoon
boat and using it as a dock. Possability of a dock when
the water comes back up and if the neighbors would
accomodate.
