The Corps of Engineers denied metro Atlanta’s request to minimize water releases from Lake Lanier for another month. It was good news for Florida and Alabama who opposed the corps' decision last year to reduce releases from November through April 30. The Corps' ReasonsTwo explanations were given for decision:
Not surprisingly, the new produced a strong reaction from both the Lake Lanier Association and the 1071 Coalition which are groups advocating for higher lake levels. Visit here to read their reponses.

![]() Those of us who live on the lake must resign ourselves to the fact that, as paranoid as it sounds, we are surrounded by enemies. They include the states of Florida and Alabama, and our own Carol Couch, who has never had any interests at heart outside of her own. If anyone ever watches the waether on TV, one can notice that a large portion of rain generally comes up from the southwest. Alabama almost always gets the more servere rain and storms when seem to weaken by the time they get to Georgia (like today)for example. Why do we have to cater to Alabama when they get rain before we do and more of it? Are we dealing with spineless or thoughless people who are given authority to make decisions that impact our community? Carol Couch may be head of the EPD, but she apparently has no idea of what she is doing. Carol, look at the pictures from the last two years. I wrote Ms Couch several times, as a Lake Lanier Resident and property owner.... asking her to Implore the Corps not to resume the high output of water (which resumed on the 30 of APR). I read where the 1071 Coalition contacted her as well... much to no avail. It's always about the money. Everything is all of the time. Figure who is making money in the situation and work your way back from there to solve this. I have lived on and around the lake for years and up and down it goes. We are real close to being full now, all we can do is hope for rain and more rain.
