Lake Lanier is getting ready to host the Canadian canoe/kayak Olympic Team Trials at the beginning of May.
Its a prestigious event because the Canadian team has enjoyed great success in recent Olympics. They've been able to pay to have a 1,500 meter course set up on the lake.
However, as some big events continue to support the Lanier Kayak and Canoe Club, others are slipping away. A team from the LKCC is actually heading over to Oklahoma City for the U.S. Olympic trials. Why? Because Oklahoma City paid $150,000 to the sports U.S. governing body and promised $500,000 towards the event.
Connie Hagler, director of the Canadian trials, blames local government around Lake Lanier for failing to support major event on the lake.
