How Low is the Water on Lake Lanier? Print
Wednesday, 22 August 2007 08:18

Lake Lanier DockLake Lanier has dropped nearly 8.5 feet below full pool. This has left many docks grounded, closed swimming areas and has made boating a hazardous activity close to the shore. The question is ... how low is the lake now compared to the past

The simple answer is unusually low, but far from setting any records. The lake hasn't dropped this low since 2001. Since then it has always been within five feet of full pool.

It has a long way to go before it reaches the lowest level ever recorded on Lake Lanier which was 1052.7 feet in December 1981. Thats an extra ten feet below where water levels are today.

Water levels have recovered in the past and everyone who enjoys the lake is hoping that they recover quickly again.
