The Lake Lanier Association will hold a mini Shore Sweep on April 28, 2007 at five locations around the Lake Lanier as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Lake Lanier.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., and volunteers may pick up trash bags to collect trash from the shoreline at five locations on the lake; Nix Bridge Park in Dawson County, Sawnee Campground on Buford Dam Road, Gainesville Marina, Port Royal Marina, and Lake Lanier Islands. Trash and Styrofoam may be taken to all locations except Lake Lanier Islands where volunteers may enter at no charge through the main gate to collect trash.
In return for a full bag of trash, the volunteers will receive either a free T-shirt or, for scouts, a Shore Sweep 2007 patch, and an invitation to the Shore Sweep volunteer appreciation party which will take place after the 19 th Annual Shore Sweep on September 29, 2007.
The Lake Lanier Association is a non-profit organization whose volunteers are organizing the spring Shore Sweep. In 2006, over 1,000 volunteers collected 28 tons of trash from Lake Lanier during the 18th annual Shore Sweep.
