News Water Levels Gwinnett County to Build Wastewater Pipline Over Corps Property
Should the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approve Gwinnett County’s proposal to build a wastewater pipeline across corps property? Although the government has already approved Gwinnett’s proposal to dump discharge wastewater in Lake Lanier, for this to happen, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers must grant two permits to allow construction of the pipeline that would run across corps property.
The corps asks for public opinion regarding this issue.  A copy of their lengthy environmental assessment draft can be downloaded from their web site, or can be viewed in person at the corps’ Buford Dam office, any Hall County library, and public libraries in Cumming, Duluth, Buford and Lawrenceville.  The corps is also fulfilling requests for CD-Rom copies of the assessment.  Public opinions on this issue will be accepted until April 13.

Upon approval from the corps, it has been estimated that construction should take approximately two years and make 14-acres of lake surface off-limits to boaters while construction lasts.
